Sometimes it really feels as if we are the kind of species that too quickly scrambles forward without looking back to see what we left behind—or worse, what we missed out on by making choices that locked in time or resources to one set path.

The trouble with having lived through nearly five decades of technological progress is that routinely the hype that bubbled to the surface, the positive prospect for what we could have used all these great innovations to achieve, seemed like genuinely monumental options.

And then, in those rare moments when I look back and recall it makes me a little sad that we took a different path and those other sights and milestones of human progress fell off the map of our human journey.

AI was one of those crossroads for me: How is it that we built something that does so many terribly useless things at so much cost, and when the world needed a superhero… instead we got another maniacal villain?

AI is not all evil, but a piece of me thinks that the worst thing it has done has been to harness the potential of what could have been and turned a billion human lifespans of creativity and innovation into a slop producing content engine to make money for clever con men.
