I remember the old joke about technology: if you want to know what’s really possible with a new piece of technology look to either the game industry or the porn industry. Real innovation comes from humanity’s desire for entertainment.
I may weave on accident into discussing more adult-themed tech in posts as I continue writing on this project, but I am deliberately steering some of my effort in to writing about games.
Why?
I am a gamer. I have been a gamer since grade school in the eighties. And I am almost certain my first interaction with a computer was gaming.
Also, I dabble in game development. I have a couple of big game projects on the books and—well, it’s hard not to think about the possibilities and the pitfalls of algorithmic advancements on all aspects of the gaming industry. From advancing code development, to generative worlds, thru AI-driven NPC dialogue, games are a lens for both technological ambition and the evolution of artistry in digital spaces—for better and for worse.
Games are the flip side of business computing, a different kind of world from AI slop marketing campaigns and CEOs lazily summarizing metrics or displacing desk jockeys with customer service bots, AI is riding that innovation wave into unknowable places that will almost certainly reshape interactive entertainment. I’ll be gaming this out under the topic Games & Reality as I continue writing on this blog. Stay tuned.
